GDF v2 project site
Latest version of the GDF specification is available at http://arxiv.org/abs/cs.DB/0608052
Jul 2013: Example data for GDF v2.51 is available
Mar 2013: GDF v2.51 add support for time stamps, time zone information, and SCP-ECG (EN1064) Section 8-11 for interpretive statements.
Jun 2011: GDF v2.20 is the stable version.
Nov 2009: GDF v2.20 is under preparation. The draft version is available here GDF v2.19. Update: the finalized version is available.
The major change is that some sensor-specific channel-related information (like the probe frequency for impedance measurements, and the electrode impedance for Voltage data (EEG, ECG, ...) is supported.
Feb 2009: a network-protocol for a client-server application based on GDF has been proposed as the BioSig client-Server (BSCS) protocol.
Nov 2008: A report on comparing a number of different biomedical signal formats is available here: OverviewBiosignalDataformats
GDF v2 is the next generation data format for biomedical signals. It addresses the needs for biomedical signal storage and transmission and tries to contain a superset of features from various other biosignal data formats. The basic file structure is similar to EDF and GDF v1, but the header information header is encoded more efficiently and a lot of useful information is stored in the header.
Status:
GDF 2.20 is already in production use.
Resources:
Latest version is available at http://arxiv.org/abs/cs.DB/0608052
The previous version of GDF (v.1) is available here.Example dataset: http://pub.ist.ac.at/~schloegl/biosig/GDF2.0/gdf2test.gdf
For Octave/Matlab:
The feasibility is already tested by the implementation in BIOSIG. Its support is available through “BioSig for Octave and Matlab” and “BioSig for C/C++”
For C/C++:
GDF support for C/C++ is available from the BioSig/biosig4c++ respository: http://biosig.cvs.sourceforge.net/biosig/biosig4c++/
