Welcome to my personal website. I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Neuroscience department at the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria.
I am particulary interested in the basic mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity of neuronal microcircuits. Neural networks perform complex behaviour (e.g pattern associators, perceptrons, multilayer backpropagation) emerged entirely from its synaptic design. My research is about synaptic transmission and plasticity empirically on cortical microcircuits that I study by performing several path-clamp recordings simulatenously within small networks. Moreover, I like to combine theoretical/computational approaches to predict/simulate emergent network behaviour with the information obtained experimentally.
I collaborate in the GNU/Linux branch development of an open source programm for the analysis of electrophysiological signals based on C/C++ and Python (Stimfit, see in www.stimfit.org). Additionally, I contribute to the development of an open source mathematics computer environment based on Python (Sage, see in www.sagemath.org ).
